Privacy Statement
The protection of your privacy and your personal data is very important to the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw). In the following we explain our guidelines, which data we collect and how they are used. You will also find out what we do to protect your data. The collection, processing and use of data is in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR (Datenschutz-Grundverordnung – DSGVO).
Scope of the Privacy Statement
This Privacy Statement applies
to the wiiw website and does not apply to other websites that you can visit
through hyperlinks on the wiiw website.
Collection, use and processing of personal data
Personal data
are only collected, used and processed if they are voluntarily entered by the
data subjects or if there is an express declaration of consent. The data
provided by you will be used for the purpose stated by you. wiiw will not use,
process or distribute them beyond what is permitted by law. In principle, your
data will not be passed on to third parties unless wiiw is obliged to do so by
law or by official or court order.
In addition, data that our server receives from your browser during your visit are automatically stored in the log files of the wiiw website (browser is, for example, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.). To ensure operation and for statistical purposes, data about each access (IP address, time, URL, referrer, browser type, transferred data volume and transmission time) are stored in a log file. Other data such as screen resolution are collected at irregular intervals to optimise the wiiw website for the respective devices (desktop, smartphones, tablets, etc.). However, no personal data will be used. The use of such data is exclusively anonymous.
Basically, we only operate standard applications for our data processing and do not process sensitive data.
Safety precautions
For wiiw it is a matter of course that
your data are kept safe and that all precautions are taken to protect them from
loss, misuse, alteration and access by unauthorised persons.
The payment methods offered in the wiiw webshop are processed by an external provider. This ensures that the data are encrypted by the SSL security system (Secure Socket Layer). At no time will data of your means of payment (e.g. credit card data) be stored and forwarded to wiiw by the external provider.
Cookies
The wiiw uses cookies so that the website can be used
in the best possible way. Cookies are small files that help us make our online
services more user-friendly, effective and secure. In most cases, so-called
‘session cookies’ are used, which are automatically deleted when the browser is
closed. You can determine whether you accept cookies in your browser settings or
in the settings of your mobile device. However, if you deactivate cookies, it is
possible that not all functions of our online services can be used in full.
Disclosure of data
We do not disclose your data to third
parties, unless required to do so by law or by official or court order.
Right to information, rectification and deletion
You have the
right at any time to obtain information about what data we have about you and
for what purpose we will use them. You may also request the rectification and
deletion of your data. Your data will be deleted at your request, within the
legally prescribed period. If there is a legal retention period for your data,
they will be retained but no longer used. They are deleted at the end of the
retention period.
